CO2-Efficiency

CO2 efficiency refers to the relative emission intensity of a sector. Here, the absolute emissions are calculated down to a certain unit of production. This unit varies depending on the sector: for airlines, emissions are calculated per passenger-kilometer, for cement and steel per ton of product.

We use emissions intensity in order to e.g. compare different plants within the same sector. However, it is not possible to compare different sectors.
